
Simple Dal Rice
Healthy and easy Indian dal rice recipe — a wholesome combo of lentils and rice, rich in protein & fiber, perfect for everyday meals.

Method
- Wash and soak the dal and rice separately for about 15–20 minutes. Drain and keep aside.
- Heat oil or ghee in a pressure cooker or heavy pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
- Add drained dal and rice to the pot. Stir gently to mix with the oil and cumin.
- Add turmeric powder, salt, and water. Stir once to combine.
- Cover the pressure cooker and cook for about 3 whistles (or in a pot cover and simmer until rice and dal are soft, about 20 minutes).
- When pressure releases naturally, open and fluff gently with a fork. Serve hot dal rice on plates.
Notes
You may add vegetables like peas, carrots or spinach while cooking for extra nutrition. A small sprinkle of fresh coriander or a squeeze of lemon makes it more flavourful.
