Stuffed Moong Dal Pakoda

  • 1 cup Moong dal (split yellow) soaked 3 hours
  • 1 tbsp Rice flour optional, for crispiness
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 inch Ginger roughly chopped
  • 2 Green chillies adjust to taste
For Stuffing
  • 1 small Boiled potato mashed
  • 2 tbsp Finely chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp Coriander leaves chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Chaat masala
  • 1/4 tsp Red chilli powder
  • to taste Salt

  • Mixer grinder
  • Mixing bowl
  • Kadhai or deep pan
  • Slotted spoon

Method
 

  1. Drain soaked moong dal and grind it with ginger, green chillies, cumin seeds and a splash of water to make a thick batter.
  2. Transfer the batter to a bowl. Add salt and rice flour. Mix well.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix mashed potato, onion, coriander, chaat masala, chilli powder and salt to make the stuffing.
  4. Heat oil in a kadhai on medium flame.
  5. Take a spoonful of batter, place a small portion of stuffing in the center and cover it with more batter.
  6. Gently drop the stuffed pakoda into hot oil. Fry until golden and crisp.
  7. Remove on tissue paper and serve hot with green chutney.

Notes

For a healthier version, air-fry at 180°C for 12–15 minutes with light brushing of oil.
