Makhana Tikki

  • 2 cups Makhana (fox nuts) lightly roasted
  • 2 medium Boiled potatoes mashed
  • 2 tbsp Besan for binding
  • 1 tsp Ginger-green chilli paste
  • 1/2 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp Roasted cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Coriander leaves finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp Oil for shallow frying

  • Non-stick pan
  • Mixing bowl

Method
 

  1. Dry roast the makhana on low flame for 3 to 4 minutes and let them cool.
  2. Grind the roasted makhana into a coarse powder.
  3. In a mixing bowl, add mashed potatoes, makhana powder, besan, ginger-chilli paste, spices, coriander, and salt.
  4. Mix well and shape the mixture into small flat tikkis.
  5. Heat a non-stick pan, add a little oil, and shallow fry the tikkis on medium flame until golden on both sides.
  6. Serve hot with mint chutney or curd dip.

Notes

For weight loss, use minimal oil. You can also air-fry the tikkis at 180°C for 10–12 minutes.
