  • 1 cup Besan (gram flour)
  • 1/2 cup Grated beetroot freshly grated
  • 1 tbsp Curd optional for softness
  • 1 tsp Ginger paste
  • 1 Green chilli, finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp Carom seeds (ajwain)
  • as needed Salt
  • as needed Water to make batter
  • 1 tsp Oil for cooking

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Tawa or non-stick pan
  • grater
  • Ladle

Method
 

  1. In a mixing bowl, add besan, grated beetroot, ginger paste, green chilli, turmeric, red chilli powder, ajwain and salt.
  2. Add curd (optional) and slowly pour water to make a smooth, medium-thick batter.
  3. Heat a tawa and grease lightly with a few drops of oil.
  4. Pour one ladle of batter and spread it into a round cheela on medium flame.
  5. Cook until the base turns golden, then flip and cook the other side.
  6. Serve hot with green chutney or curd.

Notes

You can add grated carrot or spinach to increase fibre and nutrients. Keep the batter medium-thick so the cheela cooks evenly.
