Masoor Dal Chilla

  • 1 cup masoor dal (red lentils) raw
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green chilli, chopped adjust to taste
  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder optional
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • to taste salt
  • 2 tsp oil for cooking

  • Mixer grinder
  • Non-stick tawa
  • Ladle

Method
 

  1. Wash masoor dal well and soak it in enough water for at least 4 hours.
  2. Drain the water and add the dal to a grinder. Add turmeric, cumin and a little salt. Grind it to a smooth batter using very little water.
  3. Transfer the batter to a bowl. Mix in onions, green chilli, coriander and red chilli powder.
  4. Heat a non-stick tawa on medium flame. Grease lightly with a few drops of oil.
  5. Pour a ladleful of batter and spread gently like a chilla. Cook for 2–3 minutes until golden.
  6. Drizzle a few drops of oil on the edges, flip and cook the other side for 1–2 minutes.
  7. Serve hot with green chutney or curd.

Notes

You can add grated carrot, capsicum or spinach to make the chilla more nutritious. Adjust batter consistency with a little water if needed.
