  • 1 cup Grated lauki (bottle gourd) Squeezed to remove excess water
  • 1/2 cup Finely chopped onion
  • 1 tsp Grated ginger
  • 1 Green chilli, finely chopped Optional
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Salt Adjust to taste
  • 1 cup Whole wheat flour For the momo dough
  • 1/4 cup Water For kneading
  • 1 tsp Oil For greasing

Method
 

  1. In a bowl, mix whole wheat flour and a pinch of salt. Add water slowly and knead into a soft dough. Rest it for 10 minutes.
  2. Squeeze the grated lauki to remove extra moisture. Add onion, ginger, chilli, pepper, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Divide the dough into small balls. Roll each into a thin small circle.
  4. Place a spoonful of lauki filling in the center. Fold and seal the momos properly.
  5. Grease the steamer plate with a little oil. Arrange the momos with some space between them.
  6. Steam for 10–12 minutes on medium heat until the momos turn firm and glossy.
  7. Serve hot with spicy chutney or mint dip.

Notes

You can add finely chopped coriander or grated carrot to increase the fibre content. Squeezing lauki well helps avoid soggy momos.
