  • 1 cup masoor dal (red lentils) soaked 2 hours
  • 1/2 cup grated carrot
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 cup roasted besan for binding
  • 1 tsp salt adjust to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil for shallow frying

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Mixer grinder
  • non-stick pan or tawa
  • Spatula

Method
 

  1. Drain soaked masoor dal and grind it coarsely without adding water.
  2. Transfer the dal paste to a bowl and add carrot, onion, coriander, ginger-garlic paste, and all spices.
  3. Add roasted besan for binding and mix well to form a soft dough.
  4. Shape small round or oval cutlets.
  5. Heat a non-stick pan with a little oil and shallow fry the cutlets on medium heat.
  6. Cook both sides until golden and crisp. Serve hot with green chutney.

Notes

For a weight-loss version, use very little oil and cook on a tawa. You can also air fry at 180°C for 12 minutes.
