  • 1/2 cup yellow moong dal soaked for 4 hours
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped capsicum any colour
  • 1 tsp green chilli paste adjust to taste
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt adjust to taste
  • 2 slices whole wheat bread
  • 1 tsp oil for toasting

  • Mixer grinder
  • Tawa or Pan
  • Spatula

Method
 

  1. Drain soaked moong dal and grind it into a smooth paste using very little water.
  2. Transfer the paste to a bowl and mix in onion, capsicum, green chilli paste, turmeric, red chilli powder and salt.
  3. Heat a tawa on medium flame. Spread the dal mixture evenly over one side of each bread slice.
  4. Place the slice on the hot tawa, dal-side down. Cook for 2–3 minutes until golden.
  5. Flip and toast the other side with a little oil until crisp.
  6. Serve hot with green chutney or tomato ketchup.

Notes

For extra crunch, add grated carrot or finely chopped spinach to the batter. You can also air-fry the toast for a low-oil version.
