Rice Pappad

  • 1 cup Rice flour
  • 1.5 cups Water adjust as needed
  • 1 tsp Salt adjust to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds optional
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper powder optional

Equipment

  • Kadhai or deep pan
  • Steamer or idli cooker
  • Mixing bowl
  • Plastic sheet or clean cloth for drying

Method
 

  1. Boil water in a pan. Add salt, cumin seeds and black pepper.
  2. Reduce the flame and slowly add the rice flour. Mix quickly to form a thick dough.
  3. Switch off the flame. Cover the dough and rest it for 5 minutes.
  4. Once warm, knead the dough until smooth.
  5. Divide into small balls. Roll each ball into thin round discs using a rolling pin.
  6. Place each disc in a steamer and steam for 2 minutes till they turn glossy.
  7. Spread the steamed discs on a plastic sheet and sun-dry for 6 to 8 hours or until fully crisp.
  8. Once dried completely, store in an airtight container. Fry or roast as needed.

Notes

You can air-fry or roast the pappads for a healthier option. Ensure they are fully sun-dried to avoid moisture.
