Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup Roasted chana (bhuna kala chana) about 60 grams
  • 2 tbsp Tomato, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp Cucumber, finely chopped
  • 1/2 Green chilli, finely chopped adjust to taste
  • 2 tbsp Coriander leaves (cilantro), chopped
  • 1 Lemon, juice of about 1/2 lemon
  • 1/4 tsp Roasted cumin powder (jeera powder)
  • 1/4 tsp Red chilli powder or according to spice preference
  • 1/4 tsp Black salt (kala namak) or regular salt to taste

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl

Method

  1. Take roasted chana in a mixing bowl. If using store-bought bhuna chana, you can use as is — no need to cook again.
  2. Finely chop tomato, onion, cucumber, green chilli and coriander leaves. Add them to the roasted chana.
  3. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the chana and chopped veggies.
  4. Sprinkle roasted cumin powder, red chilli powder and black salt (or regular salt). Mix everything gently but thoroughly so chana stays crunchy.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning — you can add more lemon juice or salt if needed. Serve immediately so the bhel stays crisp.

Notes

Serve immediately for the best crunchy texture. You can add finely chopped raw mango, grated carrot or pomegranate seeds for variation. For additional protein, toss in some dry-roasted peanuts.
