
Roasted Makhana (Foxnut) Snack
Simple, healthy roasted makhana snack — a crunchy, low-fat, protein-rich Indian snack easy to make at home.

- Heat a non-stick pan on medium flame. Add the olive oil (or ghee) and swirl to coat the base of the pan.
- Add the phool makhana (fox nuts) to the pan. Stir gently to coat makhana with oil evenly.
- Roast the makhana on medium flame, stirring continuously so that they puff up evenly and don’t burn. This should take about 5 to 7 minutes. You will hear light pops or see slight puffing.
- Once puffed and crisp, lower the flame. Sprinkle salt and black pepper (or red chili powder) over the hot makhana. Toss well so seasoning coats each piece.
- Turn off heat. Let the roasted makhana cool completely — this helps maintain crispiness.
- Serve in a bowl as a healthy, crunchy snack. Store any leftovers in an airtight container once fully cooled.
Notes
You can customise spice levels — add a pinch of chaat masala, turmeric or red chili for variety. For a lighter snack, skip oil and dry-roast. Always cool completely before storing to retain crunch.
