  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 cup water
  • to taste salt
  • 2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Equipment

Method

  1. Heat oil in a pan on medium heat. Once hot, add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  2. Add chopped green chilli and chopped onion. Sauté until onion becomes light golden.
  3. Add chopped tomato. Cook until tomato becomes soft and mushy (about 2–3 minutes).
  4. Sprinkle turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder. Stir and cook for about 30 seconds till raw smell goes away.
  5. Add green peas, salt and water. Mix well.
  6. Cover the pan with a lid and cook on medium-low heat for about 10 minutes or until peas are tender. Stir once in between.
  7. Once peas are cooked and water is almost dry, sprinkle garam masala and chopped coriander leaves. Mix gently.
  8. Cover and simmer for 1 more minute. Then turn off heat and serve hot with roti or rice.

Notes

You can use frozen peas directly. Adjust red chilli powder to control spiciness. For richer taste add a teaspoon of butter at end (optional).
