Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 250 g broccoli florets fresh, washed and chopped into bite-size pieces
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp salt adjust to taste
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper powder freshly ground
  • 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil optional — for light drizzle

Equipment

  • Steamer pot or a large pot with lid and a slotted stand/plate

Method

  1. Fill a pot with about 2–3 cm water and bring to a gentle boil. Place a steamer basket or a slotted stand over the pot so the broccoli sits above the water.
  2. Add the washed broccoli florets into the steamer basket, cover the pot with a lid and steam for about 4–5 minutes until the broccoli turns bright green and becomes just tender but still crisp.
  3. Turn off the heat and carefully lift out the steamed broccoli. Immediately transfer it to a bowl to avoid further cooking.
  4. Sprinkle salt and freshly ground black pepper over the hot broccoli. Add fresh lemon juice and gently toss so all florets get some dressing.
  5. If you like, drizzle a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil for flavour and a smoother texture. Serve warm as a healthy side dish or light snack.

Notes

Steaming broccoli briefly helps retain most of its vitamins, especially vitamin C and antioxidants. Don’t over-steam — aim for tender-crisp texture. You can also sprinkle a pinch of chaat masala for an Indian twist.
