Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 cup boiled and mashed sweet potato
  • 1 cup boiled black beans (or kidney beans) lightly mashed
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats acts as binder
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp oil for shallow frying
  • to taste salt

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Tawa or Pan
  • potato masher

Method

  1. Add mashed sweet potato, black beans, oats, onion, and all spices to a mixing bowl.
  2. Mix well until the mixture comes together. If it’s too soft, add 1–2 tbsp more oats.
  3. Shape the mixture into round patties.
  4. Heat a pan and drizzle a little oil. Cook each patty for 3–4 minutes per side on medium flame.
  5. Serve warm with whole wheat buns, lettuce, tomato slices, and mint yogurt sauce.

Notes

You can air-fry the patties at 180°C for 12–15 minutes for an even lighter version. These patties freeze well for meal prep.
