Capsicum Raita

Capsicum raita is a refreshing Indian side dish made with curd, sautéed capsicum, and simple spices. It pairs well with roti, paratha and rice meals.

  • 1 cup curd (yogurt) whisked
  • 1 cup finely chopped capsicum (green)
  • 1 tsp oil for sautéing
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp black salt
  • 1/4 tsp roasted cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli powder
  • to taste salt
  • 1 tbsp fresh coriander finely chopped

Method
 

  1. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
  2. Add chopped capsicum and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes on medium heat until slightly soft but still crunchy.
  3. Take the sautéed capsicum off the heat and let it cool completely.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk curd until smooth and creamy.
  5. Add cooled capsicum, black salt, regular salt, roasted cumin powder and red chilli powder. Mix well.
  6. Add chopped coriander and stir gently. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  7. Chill for 10 minutes and serve with roti, pulao, biryani or any Indian meal.

Notes

For extra flavour, you can add a pinch of chaat masala or finely chopped green chilli. Use thick curd for best texture.
