  • 1 cup Chana dal washed and soaked for 2 hours
  • 3 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1/2 cup Jaggery grated
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder
  • 2 tbsp Chopped almonds and cashews for garnish

  • Heavy-bottom kadhai

Method
 

  1. Pressure-cook soaked chana dal with 2 cups water for 3 whistles until soft.
  2. Drain excess water and blend the cooked dal into a coarse paste.
  3. Heat ghee in a heavy-bottom kadhai. Add the dal paste and roast on medium heat for 10 to 12 minutes until it turns golden and aromatic.
  4. Add milk and cook while stirring continuously until the mixture thickens.
  5. Mix in grated jaggery and cook for 5 to 6 minutes until the halwa leaves the sides of the pan.
  6. Add cardamom powder, garnish with almonds and cashews, and serve warm.

Notes

You can replace jaggery with brown sugar. For a richer taste, add a spoon of ghee at the end.
