  • 1 cup Sooji (rava) regular or medium
  • 2 tbsp Chana dal
  • 1 tbsp Urad dal
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 8 Curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp Roasted peanuts optional
  • 1 tsp Green chilli flakes or crushed dry green chillies
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 3/4 tsp Salt adjust later while cooking

Method
 

  1. Heat a pan on low flame and dry roast the sooji for 4 to 5 minutes until it smells nutty. Remove and keep aside.
  2. In the same pan, add chana dal, urad dal and roast for 2 minutes on low flame.
  3. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Let them crackle on low heat.
  4. Mix in turmeric, chilli flakes, peanuts and salt. Stir well.
  5. Add the roasted sooji back into the pan. Combine everything evenly.
  6. Cool the mixture fully and store in an airtight jar for up to 1 month.
  7. To prepare upma: Add 1/2 cup instant mix to a pan and pour 1 cup hot water. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until soft.

Notes

You can add dried carrots, peas or onions to the mix for extra nutrition. Always keep the flame low to avoid burning.
