Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup Sooji (semolina)
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1.25 cups Hot water or milk (milk makes the halwa creamier)
  • 3 tbsp Jaggery powder or sugar adjust to taste
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder
  • 1/4 cup Mixed fruits (banana, apple, pomegranate) finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Chopped nuts (almonds, cashews) optional

Equipment

  • Non-stick pan
  • Spatula
  • measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Heat ghee in a non-stick pan on medium flame.
  2. Add sooji and roast it for 5 to 6 minutes until it turns golden and aromatic. Keep stirring to avoid burning.
  3. Pour in hot water or milk slowly while stirring to avoid lumps.
  4. Add jaggery or sugar and mix well. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the halwa thickens.
  5. Add cardamom powder and mix. Turn off the heat.
  6. Fold in the chopped fruits and nuts gently. Serve warm.

Notes

For a healthier version, replace sugar with jaggery and reduce ghee slightly. Add fruits just before serving to keep them fresh.
