Spinach Pakoda

Light and crispy spinach pakoda made with fresh palak, besan and mild spices. A healthy Indian tea-time snack that is easy to cook.

  • 2 cups spinach (finely chopped) fresh palak
  • 1 cup besan gram flour
  • 2 tbsp rice flour helps make pakoda crispy
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder adjust as needed
  • 1 tsp salt adjust to taste
  • 2-3 tbsp water to bind
  • Oil for shallow frying or air-frying

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Frying pan or air fryer
  • Slotted spoon

Method
 

  1. Wash the spinach well and chop it finely.
  2. Add spinach, besan, rice flour, ginger garlic paste, cumin, turmeric, chili powder and salt to a bowl.
  3. Mix gently and add 2–3 tbsp water just to bind the mixture. Do not make a thin batter.
  4. Heat oil on medium flame. Drop small portions of the mix and fry until crisp and golden.
  5. For air fryer: brush lightly with oil and air fry at 180°C for 10–12 minutes, flipping once.
  6. Serve hot with green chutney or curd dip.

Notes

For a healthier version, use minimal oil or cook fully in the air fryer. Add chopped onions for extra flavour if preferred.
