
Chana Dal Halwa
A wholesome and protein-rich Indian dessert made with chana dal, ghee, milk and jaggery. Easy to cook, aromatic, and perfect for festive occasions.

- Pressure-cook soaked chana dal with 2 cups water for 3 whistles until soft.
- Drain excess water and blend the cooked dal into a coarse paste.
- Heat ghee in a heavy-bottom kadhai. Add the dal paste and roast on medium heat for 10 to 12 minutes until it turns golden and aromatic.
- Add milk and cook while stirring continuously until the mixture thickens.
- Mix in grated jaggery and cook for 5 to 6 minutes until the halwa leaves the sides of the pan.
- Add cardamom powder, garnish with almonds and cashews, and serve warm.
Notes
You can replace jaggery with brown sugar. For a richer taste, add a spoon of ghee at the end.
